A Libertarian View of the Summer
Well I start 9th grade soon and I have a review of the summer. It sucked for the most part.
It sucked in some ways because of the NSA scandal. Do you want the bad news or the shitty news first? The bad news is that the NSA is spying on us and it’s legal. The shitty news is, is that this won’t even taint Obama’s legacy. Like Reagan, Obama’s terms will be white-washed and only those who dig deep enough will find out what he really was.
The only good thing that happened was that the Supreme Court struck down DOMA and Prop 8. Same-sex couples now get federal benefits! It would be much better if government could just get the fuck out of marriage entirely. Now, apologists for Prop 8 give this state’s rights crap. State’s rights doesn’t give power to the states to deny rights to people. It only serves the purpose to let state’s run their own affairs (ie. make their own laws). This is a victory for me in two ways. First, the government is getting smaller on the issue of gay marriage. Secondly, religion has finally been kicked out the door on this issue. Christianity and other religions no longer get to discriminate against people simply because, they don’t like them.
Summer 2013 was not a libertarian dream but, there are still some good things to remember from it.
